Arjun Kapoor on his wedding plans with Malaika Arora: Not now, I would really like to be a little more stable professionally – Times of India

Arjun and Malaika made their romance official in 2019, despite being a relationship for several years. Referring to his father’s second marriage to Sridevi, Arjun shared that he wanted to ease his family into his decision very carefully. He shared, “I think somewhere, I have lived the life being on the other end of the spectrum. I grew up in a disjointed or a dysfunctional situation where things were not the easiest being a son, having to see what was going on around and having an understanding of it but still having to respect and accept. So somewhere that was an understanding in my head about how I should try and ease everybody into it, including the first people around us. If you ease them in, they can also understand that there is love. I think, at the end of the day if there is genuine love, compatibility, there is ease.”

Speaking about taking baby steps, the actor added, “I will always think about others first. It is my choice to be with her but I cannot expect everybody else to understand that and accept it easily. It has to be allowed to grow. I have to give regard to the relationship, including the public eye. You have to take baby steps. Along with this, I think there is a basic understanding one needs to have is that she has had a live, she has a child, I am somebody who is coming from a past who is aware of that. So you cannot dictate the moral compass of the country.” Revealing how his family reacted to their relationship, Arjun said, “My entire family made it easy for me. They told me ‘it is fine, it is okay and you don’t need to overthink with us’. Meeting dadi was the last step, there were many other steps we had to go through. Physical meeting with her turned things around.”

When Karan Johar asked Arjun about his wedding plans with Malaika, the actor clarified that marriage was not on the cards for now. He said, “Honestly, because it has been two years of this lockdown, Covid and whatever was transpiring, I wanted to focus on my career. I would like to see where I am going. I am a very realistic person, it is not like I need to hide anything. I am not sitting here and being coy. I would really like to be, professionally, a little more stable. And I am not talking financially, I am talking about emotionally. I would like to do work that makes me happy. Because if I am happy, I can make my partner happy. And I feel a lot of my happiness comes from my work.”
