Apurva Asrani reveals why he quit twitter: ‘It is a time of flux and volatility’ | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Years after quitting facebook, writer Apurva Asrani has now quit Twitter. According to him, he was asked to pick sides to even give his opinion about films.
In an interview with a news portal, Apurva said that he finds that Twitter is increasingly polarised into black or white. He revealed that various groups demand exclusive membership, and you have to pick a side.According to him, truth is often compromised to maintain association, and you have to keep mum about certain opinions that don’t gel well with your support group.

Elaborating further, Asrani added that he can’t do selective truth and his candid opinion is, at times, perceived as hurtful and upsetting. He added that he doesn’t fear upsetting people as he knows he cannot please everyone all the time. According to him, as a conscientious writer, his opinions need deeper research and follow ups that a ‘fastest finger first’ twitter culture doesn’t permit. He has decided to reserve his views for a film, series or an article, where he can put forth his views clearly and succinctly.

Asrani went on to add that being on Twitter is currently not ‘the right time’, “…because our society is going through a churning that is reflected on Twitter. According to him, it is a time of flux and volatility, as old systems are being challenged for new. However, he believes that things will settle in the future.
