Apple Wonderlust 2023: From iPhone 15 with USB-C to iOS 17, here’s what to expect on September 12
Apple, a few days ago, officially announced its upcoming event, scheduled for September 12, 2023, at 1:00 PM ET or 10:30 PM, IST. This event will serve as the platform for unveiling the iPhone 15, as well as introducing new Apple Watch models and more. Apple has named the event “Wonderlust,” and it will be held live from Apple Park in Cupertino, California.
As with previous events, Apple is expected to livestream the iPhone 15 showcase on its official website and YouTube channel, allowing a global audience to tune in and witness the product reveals and announcements.
iPhone 15 with a USB-C, new dynamic island and more
The upcoming iPhone 15 will have a significant change – it will use a USB-C port instead of the usual Lightning connector. This change was expected due to European Union regulations.

Apple will unveil the iPhone 15 series on Sept 12, but here’s when people can actually buy them
The Pro and Pro Max versions of the iPhone 15 are likely to have faster data transfer through USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3, while the base iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are likely to have a USB 2.0. All iPhone 15 models will have quicker 35W charging.
The premium models may also feature a faster A17 chip manufactured using the 3nm process, while the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will likely have the A16 chip from the iPhone 14 Pro.
The iPhone 15 series will also feature the Dynamic Island. However, rumours suggest that the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will have the Dynamic Island as we know it today. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max variants will be different from the current design. Additionally, they will include an ultra-wideband chip.
The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are expected to bring some noteworthy changes. These include a titanium frame, thinner bezels, and a more easily repairable aluminium chassis, similar to what we saw in the iPhone 14.
Additionally, both the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max may introduce an action button, similar to the one found on the Apple Watch Ultra. This button could replace the mute toggle and allow users to assign shortcuts to different apps and utilities.
Although early rumours suggested that Apple might replace the volume rocker and power button with solid-state toggles, recent reports indicate that these buttons will remain unchanged for now. Leaked photos and videos of upcoming iPhone 15 Pro cases offer a glimpse of what the action button may look like.
Apple Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 bring many updates
Alongside the iPhone 15, Apple is set to unveil its latest smartwatch lineup, and while major changes aren’t expected, there are some notable updates in store.
The premium Apple Watch Ultra is anticipated to retain its 49mm size but come with a new darker titanium case. Additionally, the Watch Series 9 is likely to feature an updated S9 processor. This S9 chip is reportedly based on the A15 processor introduced with the iPhone 13, potentially offering improved efficiency and better battery life compared to its predecessor, which uses the S8 chip based on previous-generation technology.
Mark Gurman also predicts that the Apple Watch lineup may incorporate an ultra-wideband chip and various sensor and internal component upgrades, including an updated optical heart rate sensor.
Other minor updates expected for the Watch Series 9 include a pink colour option and the availability of a band with a magnetic buckle. It’s unlikely that a new Watch SE will be introduced during this year’s event, as the product appears to follow a two-year refresh cycle and was updated just last year.
USB-C AirPods Pro
In addition to the iPhone 15, Apple is anticipated to introduce a pair of AirPods Pro with a USB-C-equipped charging case during its September event. This aligns with predictions made by Kuo last year, indicating that Apple plans to release AirPods with a USB-C charging case in 2023.
However, it remains uncertain whether Apple will make any substantial updates to the AirPods Pro themselves or if the focus will solely be on updating the charging case.
New OS – iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS Sonoma
During Apple’s upcoming event, we can expect to learn the release dates for iOS 17 and watchOS 10. However, iPadOS 17 and macOS Sonoma may not be unveiled until later in the fall, likely in October, following Apple’s recent release pattern.
While the betas for these operating systems have been available for some time, they provide insights into what we can anticipate. iOS 17 brings several small but meaningful enhancements, such as StandBy mode, voicemail transcriptions, and a Journal app. MacOS Sonoma introduces widgets, a game mode, and Safari profiles.
In the case of iPadOS 17, Apple is introducing personalized lock screens, interactive widgets, the Health app, and support for external USB webcams and cameras. Additionally, an update to Stage Manager allows customization of window sizes and orientations.
Lastly, watchOS 10 will incorporate widgets for quick app access, topographic mapping features, mood logging, and new watch faces. These updates reflect Apple’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experiences across its ecosystem.
