Apple Watch set for big watchOS update this year – Times of India

Apple’s annual developers’ conference is scheduled to begin on June 5, with the keynote kicking off the 4 day-long event when the company announces the next iteration of software for iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watch, and more. While iPhonesiOS may not be a huge update, the watchOS for Apple Watches could bring some substantial changes.
In his latest edition of the newsletter, Power On, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, says that the next iteration of watchOS – the watchOS 10 – could be an extremely big update for the Apple Watches.
Gurman believes that the new watchOS, the watchOS 10, should be a “fairly extensive upgrade.” The coming iteration of watchOS could have some significant changes to the user interface. So, unlike the iOS 17, which is said only to have some “nice to have” features, the watchOS 10 should be an essential update.
“I believe the new watchOS should be a fairly extensive upgrade — with notable changes to the user interface — unlike iOS 17. It’s important for watchOS to have a big year given that the Apple Watch hardware updates will be anything but major,” writes Gurman in his newsletter.
The Apple Watches in recent years have not seen a huge upgrade, rather than a new Apple Watch Ultra, and the same is expected this year. Rumours have discussed all the changes coming to Apple Watch in 2023 but have been relatively mum about what changes we could see this year.
Given that, Gurman says that it is needed for watchOS to have a “big year” since Apple Watches are not getting any major hardware updates. Gurman does not detail what the new watchOS 10 would bring to the table.
At WWDC, Apple is expected to announce the iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14, and tvOS 17, alongside the watchOS 10. There have also been rumours of Apple planning to showcase its first mixed-reality headset and the software running inside it, the xrOS.
