Apple Watch Series 7 overheats, blows up in owner’s hand: Report – Times of India

A man has claimed that his Apple Watch Series 7 overheated and blew up leaving him in need of medical attention. He says that he noticed his smartwatch starting to heat up unusually when he was wearing it inside his house. According to a report by 9to5Mac, the user contacted Apple support regarding this issue and the company even assured investigation into this situation.
The user has uploaded footage of the damaged Apple Watch on his YouTube channel Chance Miller and shared some images which show the blown-up smartwatch. The report by 9to5Mac says that Apple tried to cover up the story by asking the user to stay silent about the incident.

The Apple Watch user says that he was wearing the smartwatch when he realised that the wearable got much hotter than usual. After that, he discovered cracks at the back of this Apple Watch and received a watchOS warning which asked him to shut down the device due to the increase in temperature. The user mentioned that he was wearing the smartwatch inside his house where the temperature was over 70 degrees Fahrenheit (which is nearly 21 degrees Celsius).
How Apple reacted to this incident
He contacted Apple Support where the call went through various “Apple’s support hierarchy” and finally a case was created to further investigate the matter. However, the company reportedly didn’t offer any solution or advice on the call and asked the owner of the Apple Watch to stay away from the device until the support team responded.
The next day the user found that the heat generated from the device shattered its display. When he tried to take images of the damaged Apple Watch, the device started making “crackling sounds” and ‘exploded just as he was throwing it out the window.’ The user claims that the explosion left burn marks on his couch and he also had to rush to a hospital with lead poisoning concerns. The report also notes that Apple Watch doesn’t contain enough lead to cause poisoning.

Apple was notified of this situation and the company assured the user that his case will be a “top priority” and that he will receive an update about the same in the coming days. The Cupertino-based tech giant did finally arrange a delivery pickup and mentioned that the Apple Watch will be further tested at the company’s lab.
