Apple Watch saves life! Man saved from certain death after SOS

Apple Watch saves life! Again! Apple’s wearable product has once again grabbed headlines as it turned into a saviour of a kayaker who was swept out to sea by strong currents on the north coast of Sydney, Australia. The man was facing the prospect of certain death and it would have ended in tragedy were he not wearing his Apple Watch. The man has used Apple Watch SOS emergency feature to call emergency service and asked for help. The kayaker had drifted almost 4 kilometers off the coast and was unable to paddle back to shore due to the strong sea currents. Fortunately, he was wearing an Apple Watch which helped him to send a signal for help by activating the emergency SOS function. Apple Watch SOS function lets users contact emergency services and share their locations as well.

As reported by iMore, the search for the kayak was immediately initiated with NSW Police Marine Area Command calling Surf Lifesaving NSW and the Westpac rescue helicopter. Additionally, lifeguards and Freshwater Surf Lifesaving Club also assisted by deploying jet skis and inflatable rescue boats, added the portal.

Helicopter rescuer Nick Pavlakis is quoted by local reports as saying, “the man was lucky he had [a] connection on his device to make that desperate call for help.”

Well! This is not the first time and Apple Watch has saved a life. Last week too we had reported that the watch became an ultimate lifeguard for a swimmer caught between rocks in chilly river water. She got stuck in rocks with cold water rising inexorably in Oregon, Columbia. She called emergency services by using her Apple Watch after which she was rescued. Apple Watch has an SOS feature that allows users to call emergency services by just tapping the side button for a few seconds. It doesn’t even need an iPhone nearby, however, it needs to have a cellular and an active plan to work.
