apple: Apple iPhone 14’s front camera may cost three times more than iPhone 13 – Times of India

Apple’s iPhone 14 series is set to be unveiled in September 2022 and the rumour mill has been buzzing about the four smartphones that will be released under this series. According to a new report by AppleInsider, the upcoming iPhone 14 series smartphones are expected to house a higher-end selfie camera that may also feature built-in autofocus. The report also claims that these new ‘high-end’ selfie cameras will be assembled in South Korea and will cost three times more than front-facing cameras found in the previous iPhone series.
The reason for changing the selfie camera
The report also mentions that the Cupertino-based tech giant has cut ties with its Chinese supply chain partner. Apple has decided upon the South Korean company LG Innotek to develop the new front-facing camera, according to the report. The quality concerns about Chinese suppliers and Apple classifying the front-facing camera as a “high-end” component instead of a “low-end” one has led to this change.
Previously, Apple planned to use LG Innotek as the supplier for the iPhone 15 model expected to be released in 2023. However, it seems like the company has preponed its plans to 2022.
New iPhone front-facing camera expected features
Earlier, reports from various media outlets and analysts, including Ming-Chi Kuo suggested the change in the front-facing cameras in the upcoming iPhone 14 models. This new report corroborates these rumours about iPhone 14’s upgraded front camera with autofocus for enhanced FaceTime calls and selfies.
Kuo also suggested that the upgraded selfie cameras could also feature a wider aperture that is expected to provide the upcoming iPhone models with better Portrait mode capabilities. Kuo also claimed that all four iPhone 14 models will get the upgraded front camera, however, the new report has not mentioned any such thing.
