Apple: Apple iPads will support external microphones and webcams with iPadOS 17 – Times of India

Apple allowed developers to create custom drivers for their accessories to make them compatible with iPads with iPadOS 16’s DriverAPI. With iPadOS 17, Apple is taking it a step further. With the latest iPadOS, Apple has added support for external webcams and microphones via USB Type-C port.
iPads will support Mac-like external webcams and microphones
Apple showcased the iPadOS 17’s capability that allowed users to connect the iPad to Studio display and use its built-in webcam and microphone. 9to5Mac has reported that the feature works for other webcams and microphones that connect via USB Type-C.
This feature works similar to the macOS devices where users can simply plug and play their external microphones or webcams and use it with several applications. This means, the iPad will also detect these accessories without the need of any additional drivers.
Apple has mentioned that developers will be able to take advantage of Tthis in their apps via its AVFoundation API.
That being said, iPadOS 17 brings the ability for apps to rotate in all directions, select the video and audio source and even choose audio input.
iPadOS 17 features
In addition to these, iPadOS 17 brings a new customisable Lock Screen, improvements to Stage Manager and offline Apple Maps, iMessage and FaceTime along with PDF editing feature. Apple uses Machine Learning to identify fields in a PDF so that users can quickly add details, such as names, addresses, and emails from Contacts. The Notes app also get the ability to review, access PDF files. Users will have the option to use multiple PDFs in one Notes file.
Apple is also making some improvements to Stage Manager. The Freeform app also gets new drawing tools and a new feature called Follow Along.
