Aparshakti Khurana: I was awestruck seeing Aamir Khan play for team India on the big screen in Lagaan – Times of India

Aamir Khan starrer Lagaan: Once Upon A Time in India celebrated its 21st anniversary recently. The film was also in news as several producers from UK have reportedly approached the team for its rights to adapt the movie into Broadway show. Ever since its release, the film, which became the third Indian film to be nominated at the Oscars, after Mother India and Salaam Bombay! has ruled the hearts of many.

Talking about his love for the film that is set in the British era and in the backdrop of cricket Aparshakti Khurana said, “The one film that has left me with wonderful cinematic memories to cherish is Lagaan. I remember being awestruck when I saw Aamir Khan on the big screen playing for team Indian. I remember the audience rooting and cheering in theatre as though it was a real match. Everything in the cinema hall felt real… the emotions, the anticipation, the fear of losing… just everything. Watching a movie at a cinema hall is an experience that nothing can ever replace. And this film adds on to that experience.”

Indians follow cricket religiously and there’s a different pleasure in terms of watching cricket on the big screen. So when it comes to that, Shreyas Talpade picks his own film Iqbal. The actor played a deaf and mute boy, who dreams of playing cricket for India in the film.

He says, “As filmmakers we sell dreams and the best place to see these dreams is a cinema hall. I have seen many films in theatres, but one of the most special moments for me has been when my wife, parents and in-laws came to watch my film Iqbal (2005). They all were very emotional seeing me perform on the big screen. And the feeling is something else to watch play cricket on the big screen.”
