Anurag Thakur felicitates Tokyo Paralympics medalist Nishad Kumar

Sports Minister Anurag Thakur today felicitated Silver medalist of Tokyo Paralympics Nishad Kumar in New Delhi today. Minister of State for Sports Nisith Pramanik also graced the event. Nishad, who hails from Himachal Pradesh, won the silver with a jump of 2.06 metres in the Men’s High Jump T47 category at the Tokyo Paralympics.
Speaking at the event, Mr Thakur said, India is ecstatic at the brilliant performance of our Paralympians. He said, India has won its highest ever medal tally ever and it has sent the biggest contingent this year. Mr Thakur said, the unflinching support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards sports has indeed motivated the athletes to give their best. Congratulating Nishad on his success, he said, Nishad has shown that with perseverance success can be attained at the highest level.
The Minister said, Government will continue to support India’s Paralympians with facilities and funding so that they may continue to excel internationally. He said, he has an additional reason to be thrilled by Nishad’s success as he hails from his state of Himachal Pradesh.
Minister of State Nisith Pramanik said, from the age of 8 years itself, Nishad has fought very difficult circumstances and has today won a medal in the Olympics. He said, his life’s story can inspire all of us and teach us the lesson that despite hurdles if we want, we can achieve our dreams.
Silver medalist Nishad Kumar said, he could not believe that he had won a silver at the Paralympics. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring that we have the full support of the Government in anything we need – diet, equipment, coaching.
