Anthony Davis is ‘petty’ and ‘jealous’ after LeBron breaks the NBA’s all-time scoring record
Anthony Davis is labeled ‘PETTY AND JEALOUS’ after bizarre footage showed him sitting down while LeBron James broke all-time NBA scoring record… as his teammates celebrated
Anthony Davis has been labelled as ‘petty’ and ‘jealous’ after bizarre footage shows the power forward sitting down while Lakers teammate Lebron James drilled the record-breaking bucket to surpass Kareem Abdul Jabbar as the NBA’s scoring leader.
ESPN’s NBA analyst Jalen Rose, who used to play for the Pacers, Bulls and Raptors, didn’t hold back on his assessment of Davis’ numb reaction to the historical moment on Tuesday night, in LA’s 133-130 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
‘There’s no way in God’s green Earth that you can be sitting down when the greatest record in the history of basketball is being broken. Just as a fan of the game,’ he said on ESPN’s ‘Get Up’ morning show on Wednesday.
‘Now take it a step further. As a player in the game on both teams and to drill down, even more, one of your teammates who’s Lebron James, who you won a championship with in that same uniform.
‘It comes off as petty. It comes off as if you’re hating. It comes off that you’re being jealous of the moment and when things like that happen, overarching, you feel like ”can they continue to play together?”’
Anthony Davis sat down when LeBron James broke the NBA’s record for total career pts scored
James scored to pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time leading scorer against the OKC Thunder
James, 38, celebrated on the court with teammates after taking his tally to 38,388 points
James drilled a historical 14-foot fadeaway jumper with 10.9 seconds left in the third quarter to overtake Abdul-Jabbar’s career point total at 38,387 points. ‘The King has now scored 38,390 points in his 20 seasons in the NBA by the end of Tuesday night’s contest.
Against the Thunder, James had 38 points in 34 minutes of game action on 13-for-20 overall field goal (65 percent).
However, with the Lakers still one of the bottom teams in the West (13th seed) more than midway through the season, Davis was left unimpressed by James’ individual accomplishment.
‘I don’t think it was emotional for us,’ said Davis postgame following his 13-point performance. ‘We tried our best to go out and play the game of basketball.
‘Obviously, when it happened the emotions for Bron, our organization, our team, our fans, the world, the emotions kick in and everyone was very celebratory in the moment. Coming in, we tried to keep it as a normal game as possible.’
With Thursday’s Trade Deadline nearing and Davis’ reaction indicative of his mindset following his long-awaited return from a foot injury, Rose claims something fishy is cooking up in LA.
‘That ain’t no long-term relationship,’ said the NBA’s 2000 Most Improved Player. ‘When your second best player Anthony Davis is purposely not celebrating LeBron James in the moment that the entire world is watching.
‘That is a poor look on Anthony Davis. And you talked about the guy that Lebron made the shot on. How’s that video going to live for him as a defender? He’s going to be cheered on by family and friends because he was on the court.’
Davis seemed moody later on when James told him: ‘I just want to let you know I love you bro’
ESPN analyst Jalen Rose suggested that Davis’ reaction was ‘not a good look’ on the player
‘This is a moment that Anthony Davis ain’t going to live down. This is not going to be a good look long-term.’
With the Lakers big man hampered by injuries for the last two seasons, the onus is on winning rather than individual achievements.
‘Win games. It’s simple,’ said Davis. ‘They shot the ball extremely well against our coverage. They made tough shots. We have to win games. It’s very simple.’
The Lakers next host the Milwaukee Bucks. Ticket prices for the game on Thursday have significantly decreased now that James broke the NBA’s record of total career points scored by a single player.
