Andy Murray joins Emma Raducanu’s management agency IMG, as he folds tennis side of his own business

Andy Murray has made a significant change for what is left of his career by leaving his own management agency and joining the company that represents Emma Raducanu.

The 35 year-old Scot has folded the tennis side of his own management business and signed a deal with the ubiquitous IMG, who own three events on the ATP Tour and have large client base in the sport.

Murray set up his own agency 10 years ago, calling it 77 as a nod to the number of years that had elapsed between Fred Perry and himself winning Wimbledon. 

In the intervening time the former world No 1 has been voted Sports Personality of the Year three times.

Despite this he has never shown much inclination to maximise his off-court earning power, and has generally been less active on the commercial front than other top players, preferring to limit his number of promotional obligations.

IMG also manage Emma Raducanu and own three events on the ATP tour

IMG, as has been shown with Raducanu, are known for enthusiastically pursuing earning opportunities, so it will be interesting to see if he can be persuaded to do so in these twilight years of his career. 

Matt Gentry, his long-time manager, will continue to work alongside him.

Murray put in his worst performance of a broadly encouraging season to date when losing in the first round of the Miami Open last week.

He next plans to do some training in the south of Spain, but will sit out at the Monte Carlo Open next month and play the clay court Masters events in Madrid and Rome prior to the French Open.

It is a measure of the progress he has made with his body that he plans to feature in three clay court tournaments, having considered a few years ago that his days on the brown dirt were behind him. 

He has only played at Roland Garros once since 2017.
