Andie MacDowell’s Natural Gray Curls Shine on the Runway in Paris

Resplendent in stripes, sequins, and marabou feathers, Andie MacDowell was a sight to behold on the L’Oréal Paris Le Define Walk Your Worth runway during Paris Fashion Week on Sunday. Showing off her honed legs, the 64-year-old was the epitome of exuberant as she posed and danced joyously down the catwalk.

Shining almost as brightly as her smile? MacDowell’s gray corkscrew curls, which bounced as she took her effervescent turn on the catwalk. Occasionally scrunching her hair in her hands, her voluminous curls were reminiscent of her hairstyle from the early ’90s, when she played Carrie in Four Weddings and a Funeral. Just this time, nearly 30 years later, they were a natural shade of gray.

Gray is undoubtedly the hair color du jour, as women in the public eye begin to embrace the shade instead of spending hours in their colorist’s chairs in a bid to disguise its onset. MacDowell was one of the first famous women to take the plunge after she transitioned from brunette over lockdown. Proclaiming that she had always wanted to have “salt and pepper” hair, she spoke to Vogue in 2021 about the mixed emotions she felt about embracing her natural color.

“I was so cautious because I didn’t want anybody to be upset and I was trying to figure out how I could wear wigs to please people,” she said at the time. “But then once I did it, it was just so clear to me that my instincts were right because I’ve never felt more powerful. I feel more honest. I feel like I’m not pretending. I feel like I’m embracing right where I am. I feel really comfortable. And in a lot of ways, I think it’s more striking on my face. I just feel like it suits me.”

She’s not wrong. Pairing her gray curls with an iridescent silver eyeshadow, which added sparkle and illuminated her eyes, MacDowell was the picture of confidence. And regardless of age or hair color, we could all do with a bit of that.
