Amol Palekar recalls being replaced by another actor in his first film because the director felt he was ‘arrogant’ – Times of India

Amol Palekar is undoubtedly one of the finest actors we have in Bollywood. The senior actor recently recalled the time when he was replaced by another actor in his debut film because the director found him ‘arrogant’.
Recalling the incident, Amol told a news portal that director Basu Chatterjee presented him with the film offer and he said yes almost immediately. The movie was being produced by Rajshri Productions which was headed by Tarachand Barjatya in those days. He recalled that after a few conversations, Basu asked him to go and meet Tarachand Barjatya. He said that Rajshri is producing so he should go and meet him. However, Amol refused citing if he has selected me for a role, if he has faith in him so he should be the one who should introduce him to Barjatya in a dignified way.

Amol added that he did not want to go and stand in a queue to meet the producer for a film where the director had already approved of him. The actor stated that Basu was quite taken aback. According to him, Basu felt that he hasn’t even started his career yet and he has so much arrogance. Amol was then replaced by Anil Dhawan in ‘Piya Ka Ghar’.

However, the actor-director went on to work with each other in films like, ‘Rajnigandha’, ‘Chhoti Si Baat’ and ‘Chitchor’, which were all silver-jubilee hits.
