Amitabh Bachchan’s 80th Birthday: Mumtaz reminisces, “Jaya ji used to come on the sets of our Bandhe Haath” – Exclusive – Times of India

It was all happening on the sets of O P Rallhan’s ‘Bandhe Haath’ (1973)- hard work, tension, great performances, happiness, anxiety- the usual emotions when you are teaming up with people to make a film passionately. The film starred Amitabh Bachchan and Mumtaz in lead roles. “Amit ji had just started off during those days but he was someone special, someone who worked very hard at his craft. I didn’t know how far I would go, how can you foresee that? But you see, hardwork always pays. So he is where he is and he is what he is.”

On his 80th birthday today, Mumtaz fondly talks more about Amitabh Bachchan. In a chat with ETimes closer to midnight, Mumtaz spoke from London where she has parked herself with her husband Mayur Madhwani. “Amitabh Bachchan has such great communication skills. Look at ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ today; it is still popular.”

Mumtaz signed off by saying that there have been functions when Bachchan and she have been at the venue around the same time. “He has come up to me and we have exchanged greetings. He is a perfect gentleman.”

While ‘Bandhe Haath’ was being made, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri were head over heels in love. “Jaya ji used to come on the sets of our ‘Bandhe Haath’ in RK Studios. We chatted quite a bit,” Mumtaz concluded.
