Amid Athiya Shetty-KL Rahul’s wedding, Suniel Shetty thanks PM Modi for renaming 21 islands of Andaman and Nicobar after Param Vir Chakra awardees; fans say ‘shaadi pe dhyan do’ – Times of India

At a time when Athiya Shetty and KL Rahul’s wedding festivities are on in full swing at his Khandala home, Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty surprised all when he took to Twitter to thank PM Modi for renaming the 21 islands of Andaman and Nicobar.
The PM on Monday announced that the 21 largest unnamed islands will be named after Param Vir Chakra awardees.
In a tweet, Shetty wrote, “Thank you Hon. PM @narendramodi ji for renaming 21 islands of #AndamanNicobar in the names of the 21 #ParamVirChakra awardees, the true heroes of our Nation, on the 126th Birth Anniversary of the great #NetajiSubhasChandraBose. So proud! #JaiHind #ParakramDivas.”

“These islands have been named after the 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees, viz. Major Somnath Sharma; Subedar and Hony Captain (then Lance Naik) Karam Singh, MM; 2nd Lt. Rama Raghoba Rane; Nayak Jadunath Singh; Company Havildar Major Piru Singh; Capt GS Salaria; Lieutenant Colonel (then Major) Dhan Singh Thapa; Subedar Joginder Singh; Major Shaitan Singh; CQMH. Abdul Hamid; Lt Col Ardeshir Burzorji Tarapore; Lance Naik Albert Ekka; Major Hoshiar Singh; 2nd Lt. Arun Khetrapal; Flying Officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon; Major Ramaswamy Parameswaran; Naib Subedar Bana Singh; Captain Vikram Batra; Lt Manoj Kumar Pandey; Subedar Major (then Rifleman) Sanjay Kumar; and Subedar Major Retd (Hony Captain) Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav,” PMO further stated.

He joined a host of Bollywood celebs like Sidharth Malhotra and Ajay Devgn, among others who took to their handles to post a note of thanks to the PM. Malhotra said, “The very news that an island in Andaman & Nicobar is named after our hero Capt. Vikram Batra leaves me with goosebumps! My heart swells with pride that I was fortunate to live his role on screen. This step taken by PM @narendramodi ensures that Shershaah lives on forever.”

Ajay, on the other hand, said, “The decision to name an island after Capt. Manoj Kumar Pandey (Param Vir Chakra) is assuring that the example of supreme sacrifice for the motherland he left us with will continue to inspire generations to come. Thank you PM @narendramodi ji.”

Those who stumbled upon Suniel’s tweet couldn’t help but comment, “Sir shadi me busy nhi ho kya aaj?”

Another quipped, “Bhai shaadi pe dhyan do, idhar rasgoole ek hi de rhe counter number – 27 pe, veg kolhapuri dena bhi band kr diye ab toh.”

ETimes has learnt that KL Rahul and Athiya Shetty will officially take the plunge at 4:15 pm. “Suniel and Mana believe in doing everything traditionally and the mahurat time will be adhered to,” a guest revealed.

Prior to the pheras, KL Rahul will bring the baarat to Suniel’s house. The time for that has been fixed for 2.30 pm.

The newlyweds are expected to make their first appearance as husband and wife later this evening after the ceremony concludes.
