JOHANNESBURG – Thebe Magugu is a well-known skilled fashion designer, but we may need to talk about his most recent endeavour with the Orlando Pirates.
The internationally renowned fashion designer revealed on social media on Tuesday that he had created the football club’s new official uniforms – the 2023–24 “home kit,” which will be black, and its “away kit,” in pistachio green.

We are pleased to announce that we have designed the official kit for @orlandopirates , the celebrated South African FC. On the Orlando Pirates Instagram page, it was revealed that the new kits will go on sale on 27 July.
But it appears that the design has offended some Pirates fans, with tweeps saying that “Thebe guy is not a ‘designer’ buh he did it better. Aii le yakho is not make sure Thebe. Ke nonsonso!”

I just knew there was a fancy word for that green. Pirates don’t do normal. Sundowns we need a third jersey.

Magugu, who is only 29 years old, has an impressive list of accomplishments. The Kimberly-born designer’s popularity is still rising after becoming the first African and the youngest person to receive the prestigious LVMH Prize, and a finalist for the 2021 International Woolmark Prize.
The ‘Vogue x Snapchat: Redefining the Body’ advertisement included Magugu, among other designers. In this ad, Magugu uses vintage collectibles such as chandeliers, vases, purses, and boots, to reminisce about his youth in Ipopeng.
