Amari Cooper COVID-19 update: What’s next after Cowboys WR ruled out for Sunday

The Cowboys will be without one of their top wide receivers Sunday when they face the Chiefs.

Amari Cooper was placed on the team’s COVID-19 reserve list Friday. That makes him unavailable to play at Kansas City in Week 11. The timing also jeopardizes his availability for the Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Raiders.

Sporting News has everything you need to know about Cooper’s status, including whether he is vaccinated:

How long is Amari Cooper out?

Cooper’s placement Friday on the COVID-19 list means that he is unavailable to play against the Chiefs on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.

According to the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols, vaccinated players who test positive and are symptomatic have to be isolated while contact tracing takes place. Those players would have to be out until they have had two negative tests at least 24 hours apart. If a player is unvaccinated, they will need to be isolated for 10 days and must be asymptomatic before their return.

If Cooper is vaccinated, he could return in time for the Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Raiders. If he is unvaccinated and has tested positive for the virus, the earliest he could return to game action is Dec. 2.

With Cooper out, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will rely on leading receiver CeeDee Lamb, Cedrick Wilson and Michael Gallup on Sunday.

Is Amari Cooper vaccinated?

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Cooper is unvaccinated. He will need to undergo a mandatory 10-day isolation and produce two negative COVID-19 tests without symptoms before he can return to the field. If he tests negative twice on Nov. 29, he could be cleared to play in the Cowboys’ Dec. 2 matchup against the Saints.

Archer also reported that Cooper tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the Cowboys’ games Sunday and on Thanksgiving.
