Ali Abbas Zafar says he’s ‘not sure’ about making a sports film with Shahid Kapoor – Here’s why – Times of India

Ali Abbas Zafar and Shahid Kapoor came together to give fans an action-packed weekend with the release of ‘Bloody Daddy‘. The slick movie has been garnering great reviews from fans and critics alike. But, did you know the director-actor duo were previously in talks to give the audience a sports film and not this action entertainer?
Post the release of the box office blockbuster Kabir Singh, Shahid reportedly reached out to Ali to work on a sports film together. In his latest interview with a news portal, the director admitted that he was in talks with the actor for a sports movie, but it was something they ‘weren’t super excited about’.

Revealing why he ditched the idea of a sports film over an action flick, Ali said that the most important thing for him, was that his films need to be ‘relevant’.

The director, who previously directed the superhit sports film ‘Sultan’ starring Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma in lead roles, revealed that he was not too keen on making another sports movie. Pointing out that ‘many sports films are getting made’ every 4-5 months in the film industry, he was not too keen on making a film in the genre until he found something substantial. He concluded by saying, that he wasn’t sure he wanted to venture into that space again.

While another sports film is not on the cards, fans can expect another action-packed adventure with the director when his film ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan‘ starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, releases on Eid 2024.
