Alec Baldwin says he’s ‘grateful’ for support as Rust filming continues

Alec Baldwin has thanked fans for their support, sharing an update from the Rust set as filming resumed following the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

The 65-year-old actor, who has reprised his role as the main character in the Western, posted a photo showing him in costume, along with a location update.

He wrote: “We filmed SUPERCELL in Billings. Now outside of Bozeman to complete RUST. Montana is stunning”.

Supercell, an action-adventure film which also starred Baldwin and was out in March, was one of the final projects of actress Anne Heche, who died in a car crash last year.

Baldwin’s update went on: “I’m grateful for all of the support I have received here.”

Shooting was suspended on 21 October 2021 after Hutchens was fatally wounded on set when a prop gun Baldwin was holding went off during a rehearsal.

The actor says the gun went off accidentally and he did not pull the trigger.

All criminal charges against Baldwin were dropped earlier this month, however a civil lawsuit brought against Baldwin by Hutchins’ family is still going ahead.

Armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was responsible for weapons and ammunition for the production, is facing an involuntary manslaughter charge.

Director Joel Souza, who was also injured in the shooting, has returned to lead the film.

He said in a statement after filming resumed: “Though bittersweet, I am grateful that a brilliant and dedicated new production team is joining former cast and crew to complete what Halyna and I started.”

Hutchins’ widower, Matthew Hutchins, is now an executive producer on the film, as well as on a documentary about his late cinematographer wife.

This week, Rust Movie Productions announced that Patrick Scott McDermott, 14, will play the role of Lucas Hollister – a boy who goes on the run with a notorious outlaw – in the film.

Production is expected to complete by the end of May.
