Al-Nassr 0-1 Al-Wehda: Cristiano Ronaldo fumes at his own bench

Cristiano Ronaldo FUMES at his own bench and misses golden chance from close range on grim night to forget, as Al-Nassr crash out of the King Cup of Champions against 10-man Al-Wehda

  • Ronaldo hit the bar and missed several more key chances throughout the game
  • He hit the bar with an effort from just a few yards out in the second half
  • Abdullah Al-Hafith was also shown a second red card after a foul on Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo was left fuming at his team-mates as Al-Nassr were knocked out of the King Cup of Champions by Al-Wehda in a huge upset in Saudi Arabia.

Having beaten their opponents 4-0 just two months ago – a game which saw Ronaldo score all four goals – the hosts were expected to breeze into the final and set up a heavyweight clash against Al-Hilal.

But the newly-promoted side had other ideas, and one goal was enough for them to secure a route to the final and knock Nassr out of the competition at the semi-final stage.

They had lost Abdullah Al-Hafith to a red card in the second half, with the defender tripping Ronaldo on the edge of the box to pick up his second yellow.

Ronaldo, however, fired the free-kick over the bar, and that was the story of his night as he missed several key chances – including an effort from point-blank range and another which hit the bar – and was left fuming at his own team-mates and coaching staff on the substitutes’ bench.

The forward’s first effort on goal came in the opening few minutes, as he dragged a left-footed effort wide of the post from distance.

He then fired a great chance from six yards out straight at the impressive Munir Mohamedi in the Al-Wehda goal as he began to grow frustrated with it clear he should have scored.

And it wasn’t long after that Jean-David Beauguel gave the visitors the lead, with a defensive mix-up allowing the forward to acrobatically finish to put his side ahead.

The hosts and Ronaldo tried to get back into the game, but found themselves behind at the break, when the Portugal forward seemed to snap.

As the players walked off for half-time, Ronaldo shook his head before he confronted his own bench, clearly angered by something, before making his way off the field of play.

The forward returned in the second half and their task of coming back was made easier when Al-Hafith was sent off.

The newly-promoted side defended well, however, and took time out of the game, frustrating their hosts as the clock ran down.

Taliscsa in particular had several opportunities before Ronaldo hit the bar in his latest failure to find the back of the net form just a few yards out. He crouched with his hands on his head in frustration.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was unable to drag his team back into the game, and it was Al-Wehda who progressed to the final to take on Al-Hilal.
