Akshay Kumar’s ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ to have early OTT release to minimize box office losses: Report – Times of India

Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ has failed to bring in the audience and at the end of its first week, the period drama has earned Rs 54.75 crore. Due to lack of audience, several shows of the film have been cancelled in a few circuits. And to minimize the losses, producers of ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ have decided on a different plan for its digital release.

This epic saga featured heavy VFX and has been reportedly made on a budget of Rs 200 crore. To cut down on its losses, the makers of ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ are planning to release the film early on OTT, within four weeks of its theatrical release, reports Bollywood Hungama. ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ has emerged as Akshay Kumar’s second commercial dud, after ‘Bachchhan Paandey’, which released in March this year.

Moving beyond this flop, Akshay Kumar has Aanand L Rai’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’ with Bhumi Pednekar, ‘Ram Setu’ co-starring Nushrratt Bharuccha and Jacqueline Fernandez and ‘Selfiee’ with Emraan Hashmi in the pipeline. He has also signed up for the official Hindi remake of Tamil entertainer ‘Soorarai Pottru’. Recent buzz suggested that the film has been titled ‘Startup’, however when ETimes reached out to the producer of the film, Vikram Malhotra, he denied the development and replied to our messages saying, “No title confirmed yet.”
