Akshay Kumar calls up Gaiety-Galaxy MD and is pleased as punch; ‘Sooryavanshi’ expected to be Akki’s biggest opener – Times of India

The initial draw has been very encouraging and ETimes spoke to the trade to get a ringside view of what lies ahead.

Talking to ETimes, Gaiety Galaxy owner Manoj Desai said that all his four theatres wherein he had released ‘Sooryavanshi’ (Gaiety, Galaxy, Gossip, Maratha Mandir) are going housefull. Desai also revealed that he’d received a call from Akshay Kumar saying, “Kya baat hai bhai, saare theatre housefull hain aapke (This is great news, all your theatres are running houesfull)”. And then Rohit Shetty told Desai over the phone that, “Aata hoon do teen din baad (I’ll come over in 2 to 3 days) Akshay abhi London mein hai, unke saath aata hoon (Akshay is in London, I’ll come over with him) after he comes back.”

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said that his estimates of Day 1, ‘All India’ will be to the tune of 30 crore plus. Exhibitor Akshay Rathi however said that he predicts Day 1 ‘All India’ to be 20 crores and added, “But I am sure that this film will register Akshay’s biggest opening ever.”

So far so good. “Yes, indeed,” says Adarsh, “At least hereafter we need not blame COVID for films that draw a bleak response. If the film is promising and exciting, the start of ‘Sooryavanshi’ has shown that public aayegi.”

‘Sooryavanshi’ has been produced by Akshay Kumar, Rohit Shetty (who has also directed it) and Reliance Entertainment.
