Rennie Curan, who had stints in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers following three years of success at Georgia, where he was named First-Team All-American by CBS and First Team All-SEC, both in 2009, tweeted a heartfelt message dedicated to his former teammate.
‘Incredibly honored to be inducted into the Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame!’ shared the 2010 NFL draft pick. ‘The news was bitter sweet as I found out that my brother and former teammate Akeem Hebron passed away unexpectedly.
‘This is dedicated to you and many other who have been a blessing to my life.’
Hebron, who hailed from Maryland, committed to the Bulldogs in 2006, but had a rough start to life in Athens, after being slapped with a one-year ban in 2007. He was arrested twice for underage possession of alcohol within a two-month time span and was sent to Georgia Military College to correct his behavior, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reported.

Hebron later returned to the University of Georgia, and played in 16 games for the Bulldogs form 2008 until 2010, racking up 10 tackles total. He also graduated from the school, where his former coach believes he learned a great deal about life as an adult.
‘A good thing happened to Georgia and him,’ coach Mark Richt told the Free Press in 2010. ‘The greatest thing, I think, that’s happened to him is that he’s grown into a man. That’s one of the biggest things that college is about.’
Among fans, one person wrote under Georgia’s post mourning Hebron’s death: ‘So sad to be taken at such a young age. Condolences to his family. RIP, he won’t be forgotten by the Dawg Nation.’
Another supporter of the Bulldogs tweeted: ‘A Damn Good Dawg RIP’ along with red and black heart emojis.
‘This is terrible. So sad to hear of Akeems passing,’ shared a different fan. ‘May God grant his family, friends, and former teammates comfort and peace. God hold them tight, and ease their pain.’
‘We are so saddened to hear about Akeem!’ wrote a college football fan, who may’ve known Hebron, adding: ‘He was a tremendous young man! thoughts and prayers for his family.
Another Bulldogs fan posted: ‘So young, and so tragic. Such a damn good Dawg, taken way to o soon. You’ll be missed, Akeem! GO DAWGS.’
