Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was originally considered for Juhi Chawla’s role in Darr, reveals costume designer Neeta Lulla | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

During her interview with Bollywood Hungama, Neeta recalled that she had met Aishwarya for the first time in Yash Chopra’s office where the filmmaker was contemplating casting her for Darr.
She then revealed that Yash Chopra called her and asked her to do look tests with Aishwarya.

Both Yash Chopra and Neeta discussed it and they felt that Aishwarya looked beautiful in the look tests.

But then Yash Chopra told Neeta that it won’t work out because Aishwarya was going for the Miss World Pageant. She went on to participate in the beauty contest and Darr happened with Juhi Chawla.
Aishwarya eventually won the Miss World title in 1994 and her career in Bollywood took off shortly with films like Mani Ratnam’s 1997 film Iruvar, Jeans, Aa Ab Laut Chalen, followed by hits like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Taal, Devdas and many more.
Later, Neeta designed Aishwarya’s costumes for Jeans, directed by Shankar. Aishwarya had asked Neeta to design the whole film for her and she did. She enjoyed designing for a larger-than-life film and she was proud of her work she did on Jeans.
