After weeklong WFH due to rains, it’s business as usual for techies from Monday

Most tech companies are planning to return to business as usual beginning September 12, Monday, as rains have subsided, easing the flood situation in the Mahadevapura zone of Bengaluru.

Mahadevapura and Bommanahalli zones were badly affected due to the recent incessant rains in Bengaluru, but it was the tech companies in Mahadevapura zone that bore the maximum brunt due to massive flooding and breaching of lakes in the area. Mahadevapura is also a major technology suburb, and the flash floods forced tech companies to extend work from home for all employees for the rest of last week.

The Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA) in an advisory said repair works on the ORR and arterial roads are continuing. It, however, urged workers to monitor traffic and weather conditions and possible impact of rains on the commute time. The ORR stretch alone is home to about 500 technology companies.

The Karnataka government and IT companies had on September 7 decided to jointly find a permanent solution to the issue of waterlogging in the city. The stakeholders also agreed to meet every month virtually, with representatives from industry bodies including Nasscom.

State IT/BT minister CN Ashwath Narayan, who chaired the meeting along with chief secretary Vandita Sharma and Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan had assured that the flooding issue would be resolved by the next monsoon.
