After Nest Hub, Google adds full TV controls on Home app – Times of India

Google has reportedly started rolling out full TV controls on its Google Home application.
According to a report by 9to5Google, users who have TVs compatible with Google Assistant/Home support are reportedly witnessing full touch controls.
The new touch controls include–volume up/down, mute/unmute, power on/off, play, pause, channel and a source list.

Earlier, the controls were only available on the Nest Hub, but now they are available on the Home application.
Last year in August, Google said it was “rolling out redesigned controls for popular smart home devices in the Google Home app,” that included fans, air purifiers, vacuum cleaners, and TVs.
“This is different from Cast-enabled televisions or Google/Android TV, which are instead served by the new Google Home app’s media controls,” the report added.
The new page allows routines to manage various features of each device, as compared to the previous page’s drop-down settings that only allowed users to adjust the on or off settings for each light or switch in their home.
Google adds ‘Highlights’ tab to its Contact app
Google revamped its Contact app by adding ‘Highlights’ tab feature to its Contact app on Android devices. The search engine giant has now added the ‘Illustrations’ tool to the app that lets users create a custom profile picture.
According to a report by 9to5Google, ‘Illustrations’ can be found next to Google Photos and Device photos. The new tool appears while a user is editing any contact on the app.

The collections – including animals, cities and places, food, hobbies and interests, nature, and sports and recreation – remain unchanged but Google has reportedly added more to each of the subcategories since launch.
After selecting an image, users can edit the picture with a number of tools available in the app. They can find a new “Quick crops” feature that “highlights interesting parts of an image and joins the other color tools that make Google Illustrations quite immersive”, the report added.
Last year in September, Gmail received the ‘Google Illustrations’ tool.
