Adam Zimmer ‘had bruising or blood pooling around his eye’ when he was found dead

Bengals assistant coach Adam Zimmer ‘passed out from drinking’ and ‘had bruising or blood pooling around his eye’ when he was found dead, aged 38, at his home, court filing reveals

Cincinnati Bengals offensive analyst Adam Zimmer seemed to ‘have bruising or blood pooling around his eye’ when he was found dead last week, a new court filing has revealed.

Police found the 38-year-old’s body at his home in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, on October 31 after a request for a welfare check at 1.15 p.m.

Cops reportedly went to Zimmer’s home after reports he ‘passed out from drinking,’ according to a search warrant affidavit received by Dakota County District Court, per Star Tribune.

The court filing reports that Zimmer was found by police on a couch with seemingly an injury to his eye. The filing states Zimmer ‘appeared to have bruising or blood pooling around his eye.’

A cause of death is still to be determined by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office but police said last week ‘there was nothing suspicious and there didn’t appear to be any evidence of foul play’.

Son of former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, Adam Zimmer worked for his father with several NFL clubs, including the Bengals and Vikings.

He had been working remotely with the Bengals most recently, but did not attend last Monday’s loss to the Cleveland Browns.

Adam Zimmer started out his coaching career as an assistant linebacking coach with the New Orleans Saints in 2006. After eight years in Minnesota with his father he rejoined the Bengals in July.

Zimmer leaves behind his two sisters and his father. Zimmer’s mother, Vikki, passed away unexpectedly in 2009 at age 50.

‘I can’t believe I’m writing this,’ Zimmer’s sister Corri wrote on Instagram alongside several images of her brother last Monday.

‘I lost my big brother yesterday,’ she continued. ‘The kindest, sweetest, family loving, sports obsessed soul there ever was. I’ve felt pain like this once before but it’s been a while and I didn’t know I was able to feel like this again.

‘My heart is shattered and it hurts so bad. I don’t know how to juggle being a mom to one year old twin boys and the grief of losing my brother so unexpectedly. I’m so lost, I’m so overwhelmed, I’m so heartbroken.’

Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins led the tributes to Zimmer last week.

‘Deeply saddened by the news of Adam Zimmer… tremendous coach & person,’ he on Twitter. The pair worked together during the 2018-19 and after Zimmer rejoined the franchise for the 2020-21 season.

‘Had the privilege of sitting next to him flying back form games. Learned so much. Praying for the Zimmer family,’ the three-time Pro Bowl added.

‘We are heartbroken to hear about the passing of Adam Zimmer,’ the Vikings shared.

‘Adam was a kind, respectful man, and over his years in Minnesota, it was evident he cared tremendously about his family, his players, his fellow coaches and the Vikings front office staff. Our thoughts are with Mike, Corri, Marki and the entire Zimmer family.’

Other teams that had once employed Zimmer and former players from all around the league also paid their respects to the Super Bowl XLIV champion, who was part of Sean Payton’s coaching staff in 2010 when the Saints beat the Bengals 31-17 to win it all.
