Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ ditches Christmas clash with Ranveer Singh’s ’83; announces release on Valentine’s day 2022 – Times of India

The actor, who was scheduled to release his film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ this December, will now release his film on Valentine’s Day 2022, he said in an official statement. The news came minutes after Ranveer Singh announced that his sports film, ’83, directed by Kabir Khan, will have a Christmas 2021 release.

For those who think the actor was bowing out of a box office faceoff, he said that it was the delays in the production, owing to the pandemic that forced them to postpone the release date.

“Due to the delays faced as a result of the pandemic, we will be unable to release our film Laal Singh Chaddha, this Christmas. We will now be releasing Laal Singh Chaddha on Valentine’s Day 2022.”

In his statement, the actor also shared his delight over the Maharashtra government’s decision to re-open theatres next month. “We welcome the decision of the administration to allow cinemas to re-open from 22nd Oct,” read the post.

On Saturday, a delegation of filmmakers and theatre owners including Rohit Shetty met Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to discuss the reopening of cinema halls across Maharashtra, a key territory for movie business – which was shut since April this year due to the second wave of COVID-19.

Since the government’s decision to open theatres next month was announced, filmmakers have been rushing to book their date with the audience.

Akshay took the lead by announcing Diwali 2021 as the release date for this film ‘Sooryavanshi’. In a Twitter post, Kumar wrote, “So many families would be thanking Sh Uddhav Thackeray today! Grateful for allowing the reopening of cinema halls in Maharashtra from Oct 22. Ab kisi ke roke na rukegi – AA RAHI HAI POLICE #Sooryavanshi #Diwali2021.”

On Sunday, YRF announced that their historical drama ‘Prithviraj’, that also features Akshay in the lead, will now release on January 21. It also announced that the Ranveer Singh starrer ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’ will hit theatres on February 25 and Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Shamshera’ will launch on March 18.

‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ that is a remake of the Oscar-winning Tom Hanks starrer ‘Forrest Gump’, reunites Aamir and Kareena Kapoor Khan, who last worked together in the cult film ‘3 Idiots’.

The film will also see south star Naga Chaitanya, Mona Singh and Manav VJ in pivotal roles.
