Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ was conceived 14 years ago – Times of India
While speaking to a media outlet recently Atul Kulkarni revealed that during the premiere of Abbas Tyrewala’s film ‘Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na’ in 2008 he met Aamir Khan and discussed their love for cinema. That’s when Atul felt inspired and got the idea of writing ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. Incidentally, Aamir was the producer of ‘Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na’.
Amir and Atul got into a tête-à-tête and shared how fascinated they were by a cinematic wonder like ‘Forrest Gump’. For the unversed, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is the official Indian adaptation of the Hollywood classic ‘Forrest Gump’. While discussing they agreed that this film should reach more people. After this conversation, Atul decided to write Laal Singh Chaddha as he wanted to tell the story of an innocent young man who discovers how to live life with happiness. While the film is one of its kind, the journey behind the making of Laal Singh Chaddha wasn’t a cakewalk. It took almost eight years for the makers to acquire the rights to ‘Forrest Gump’.
Atul Kulkarni is delighted and honoured to adapt the Hindi film from the original screenplay and he admits it has been a great experience while adapting it from a classic. When asked if he plans on turning into a professional script writer Atul revealed that he’s not a professional writer and he doesn’t write on demand or out of compulsion.
Starring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Naga Chaitanya and Mona Singh in key roles, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is set to release in theatres on August 11.
