A Tribute to Ukraine • Chapter IX

In Kyiv, of course, it is calmer than in the suburbs. Calmer than in Mariupol, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Kherson. I cannot even imagine what people are experiencing under shelling in these cities. But something inside has changed forever. No, I have not become calloused. There was a clear understanding of how I wanted to live every minute: honestly, brightly, sincerely, without paying attention to names and regalia, without making grand plans for success—simply. I have always lived this way, but society/circumstances prevented me from breaking out of this circle. Now I’m free.

I’m sick of those who try to milk the war, to win relevance in the western eye. This is what some of my acquaintances, cultural institutions do, consciously or unconsciously. Well, thanks to those who have shown their true face.

Ukrainians have changed; our genetic code has spoken. Free, brave, reckless, cheerful, beautiful, original. The history of Ukraine for thousands of years, with all its victories, sufferings, heroism, is now in each of us. And we feel it. And you can feel it! We are the light, and the light begets the light. We are love, and love begets love. We are freedom, and freedom begets freedom.

We no longer want to be like someone else, to complain, to ask for something. We are Ukraine! We rallied together; we realized how passionately we loved every inch of our land and how fiercely we would fight for it!

There are no words in any language to describe our admiration for the Ukrainian army. Guys, Superman has retired. We love you with all our hearts.

I want to say thank you to all the friendly countries that support us at this time and will support us later.

And also, on my own behalf, I want to thank all the people who work beside me every day: the cooks, the ballet dancer, the music journalist, the Belarusian revolutionary, the dental technician, the theater actor, the businessmen, the project manager of the IT company, skater-bartender, architect, and every Ukrainian on the planet…we all became ordinary people, we all became Ukrainians.

Glory to Ukraine!
