While a good number of Aubrey Plaza’s The White Lotus co-stars were in attendance at last night’s SAG Awards (the series picked up an award for Best Drama Ensemble), a different cast reunion happened during the actor’s getting-ready process back at the hotel. Plaza brought Parks and Recreation co-star Amy Poehler as her plus-one for the evening. “Best date ever,” Plaza told Vogue.
It was a big night for Plaza. “It’s so amazing to know that so many people watched our work,” says Plaza of The White Lotus. “It’s every actors’ dream, and I am so proud to be a part of this cast. Such a talented group of people.” Reflecting on her divisive character Harper, Plaza says her favorite part about the role was navigating her complex relationship with Ethan (Will Sharpe). “I loved how smart Harper is and how protective she was over Ethan,” says Plaza. “She was not afraid to be herself in any situation, and I admire that about her.”
The same could be said about Plaza herself, and her approach to the red carpet. “I [always] want to feel like an elevated version of myself,” says Plaza. “I like to feel sexy, comfortable, and true to myself as much as I can.” For the SAG Awards, Plaza continued this energy. The star says she wanted to channel a “screen siren” with her look, and her shimmery bronze Michael Kors dress—complete with a criss-cross neckline and cutout exposing the abdomen—was the perfect piece to do so, channeling a dash of Studio 54 energy. “We were trying to encapsulate a modern 70’s vibe,” says Plaza. “I loved the beautiful brown color of the dress, and the sexy cutouts. It felt sexy but not overdone. Glamorous and chic.”
It won’t be the last stellar red carpet moment from Plaza this coming month. Her new action-spy film Operation Fortune, in which she co-stars alongside Jason Statham, premieres on March 3. Meaning, we have even more outfits from her to look forward to.
