Will the Salman Khan Kolkata event also be cancelled after the row over Arijit Singh concert? – Times of India

The political tug of war in Bengal grabbed all the limelight on Thursday over the cancellation of Arijit Singh’s concert at Eco Park. It kicked up a social media storm as well with fans wondering whether the show will take place or not. It all started when alleging the reason for cancellation of Arijit Singh’s concert scheduled to be held on February 18, BJP claimed the ace singer had recently sung ‘Rang de tu mohe gerua’ in the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the inauguration of the 28th Kolkata International Film Festival.

Well, not just Arijit Singh’s concert but the Salman Khan show which was supposed to be held on the same ground on January 20 also faces uncertainty. While addressing the media Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim said that the Eco Park event of Salman Khan has also been cancelled and the organizers are now looking for a new venue. According to reports, the Event, Kolkata part of the Bollywood actor’s ‘Da-Bangg’ tour, might be staged on Milan Mela premises (Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan) ooposite Science City.

For the unversed, not only Salman but several other stars including Sonakshi Sinha, Jacqueline Fernandez, Prabhu Deva, Ayush Sharma, and Guru Randhawa will also accompany him at the Kolkata event.

The ‘Wanted’ actor is expected to arrive in the city on January 19. He will reportedly give a courtesy visit on the same day to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee which will be followed by a night-long rehearsal ahead of the big performance day on January 20.

For the unversed, Salman gets a Y+ category security right now after the threat letter he and his father Selim Khan received earlier in June. During the January event, the three-tier security belt will have an additional special security by the Kolkata Police.

Interestingly, unlike other Bollywood stars, Salman doesn’t prefer multiple city promotions for his films. In the past few years his visit to Kolkata was cancelled due to several reasons. Salman hasn’t come to Kolkata in the last 13 years. In 2009, the celebrated actor was scheduled to play an exhibition football match at the Mohammedan Sporting ground as part of the promotion of his film ‘Wanted’. However, he was literally mobbed at the ground and had to return his hotel as the situation went beyond anyone’s control. The exhibition match was also cancelled.
