Report: Hawks’ Young, Bulls’ DeRozan could be next stars to demand trades
No league has superstars switching teams quite like the NBA, and it appears some new names could be asking out of town in the near future.
According to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young could be the next superstar to request a trade should the team fail to make “inroads” come post-season time.

The Hawks are currently 16-16 despite making a blockbuster trade for star guard Dejounte Murray during the off-season, and haven’t been able to replicate their success since making an Eastern Conference Finals appearance in 2021.
Changes are already happening in Atlanta. Earlier this week, Travis Schlenk — who drafted Young — moved from team president to a senior advisory role, allowing general manager Landry Fields to take control of basketball operations.
Young is a 24-year-old, All-NBA talent and two-time all-star currently averaging 27.6 points and 8.8 assists. He’s also in the first year of a five-year max contract. Needless to say, the return on a trade would be seismic even by NBA standards.
Haynes also reports that Chicago Bulls star DeMar DeRozan could ask out of the windy city this upcoming off-season.
DeRozan, who has one year remaining on his deal beyond this season, has played some of the best basketball of his career since signing in Chicago before last season. However, the Bulls suffered an uninspiring first-round defeat to the Milwaukee Bucks last season and are currently struggling in 2022-23 with a 13-18 record.
Other notes reported by Haynes:
• The Utah Jazz and Jordan Clarkson have engaged in extension talks.
• Rival executives believe the Mavericks could open up to moving Christian Wood soon.
