Just weeks after a quarterback controversy saw the Jets choose to bench 2021 second overall pick Zach Wilson, Mike White has won over the hearts of the locker room after coming back to the game despite injury.
The Jets fell to 7-6 on the season after a tough loss in a snowy Orchard Park against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday by a 20-12 scoreline.
In that game, White went down with a rib injury and was sent to the locker room to be evaluated by medical staff.
Jets starting QB Mike White was taken to the hospital after suffering a brutal hit to the ribs
White was hit multiple times in the midsection throughout Sunday’s punishing 20-12 loss
Following that evaluation, White returned to the game – much to the surprise of his teammates who would go on to praise him for his determination.
Two offensive linemen, LT Duane Brown and C Connor McGovern both went up to White to tell him they appreciated him.
WR Braxton Berrios went up to him, saying, ‘You’re a warrior. That’s the first thing I did when I came in… I found him and I told him what I wanted to tell him, because he battled, man.’
‘He’s a f–king soldier,’ running back Michael Carter said. ‘No disrespect to Zach [Wilson] or Joe [Flacco], but it’s really cool to play with him. I love him.’
White returned to the game in the 4th quarter after being taken to the locker room by med staff
White took a hard hit to the midsection from Bills linebacker Matt Milano – leading him to visit the medical team in the locker room.
He eventually returned in the fourth quarter after two drives led by Joe Flacco led to a fumble and a three-and-out.
White finished the day completing 27 passes on 44 attempts for 268 yards and taking three sacks on the day.
The result sees the Jets fall to 7-6 and just barely outside a playoff spot in the contentious AFC
After the game ended, White was taken by ambulance to a Buffalo-area hospital for further evaluation.
He was eventually cleared and returned with the team on their flight back to the New York City-area and is currently listed as questionable.
The Jets face a tough back end of their schedule – facing off against a surging Detroit Lions team before ending their home slate against Jacksonville just before Christmas.
From there they travel to Seattle and Miami to close out their regular season as they hope to make the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
