Twitter users may see a follower count drop, here’s why – Times of India

Twitter has been struggling with spam and scam accounts since even before the company was taken over by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The micro-blogging site has been through several changes since the billionaire became the new owner of the company. Now, Musk wants to remove these spam accounts from the social media platform once and for all. Twitter’s new owner has recently shared a tweet to announce that the platform is going through a purge to remove these suspicious accounts and that might affect some prominent accounts.

Twitter spam account purge: Who will be affected
Musk has mentioned that the spam/scam account purge on Twitter will be affecting some prominent accounts on the platform. As this purge will remove several suspicious accounts from Twitter, some account holders may see a drop in the number of followers.
Musk’s tweet reads: “Twitter is purging a lot of spam/scam accounts right now, so you may see your follower count drop.”
Twitter’s new chief has been promising users about getting rid of all spam accounts from the social media platform. Musk has also claimed that bots are one of the big issues for Twitter.

The tweet shared by Musk didn’t confirm if this purge will also decrease the overall number of bots on the micro-blogging site. These bots also make up the follower count for some accounts. So, if Twitter is also targeting bots with this purge, the follower count for some users may drop even lower.
Last week, Musk revealed that the Twitter Blue or Verified Blue feature would launch on December 2. A recent report by The Verge has confirmed that the plan has been further delayed.
