Digital Safari • Pananti Atelier
Thanks to gaming applications, fantastic worlds break in and coexist in the routine of our lives. To date, we can say that each of us has had the opportunity to travel to other worlds, in front of a screen, immersing ourselves and interacting with parallel universes as never before.
The journey continues to exist in reality but, with technology, the physical boundaries of the real experience are being transcended, and gaming has become a means of fulfilling a desire for adventure and escaping the ordinary. Does the intertwining of the gaming world and the real world allow us to look around us with new eyes?
Francesco Bruno raises this question. And if photography has always been a tool for portraying the physical world in its various forms, from the micro to the macro, from the everyday to the extraordinary, from the given to the concept, it is of our times the need to tell the story of the world around us, no longer limited to physical reality, but interconnected to digital elements in an increasingly profound way.
It was from these reflections that the artist’s need to represent the first digital safari was born. The safari of the 21st century.
Digital Safari is the title of a boundless body of work, where Francesco Bruno captures, investigates, chooses, and dwells on virtual realities that are manifested in physical existence, making them tangible through the photographic medium that from the digital comes to the analog in an inverse transition.
Pananti Atelier is hosting an exhibition that for the first time shows portraits of virtual subjects that actually live and interact with the environment around us. No collage, no post-production retouching, the whole process takes place in the physical world, confronting us with a scenario where the boundaries between real and digital are increasingly fluid. A seemingly immediate process that actually conceals the travails of an unprecedented endeavor, where an obsessive aesthetic search for the perfect pose affirms the existence of a perhaps only seemingly parallel world.
