Aanand L Rai: Whenever I have a twisted tale to tell, I reach out to Ayushmann Khurrana – Times of India

At the trailer preview of the film last night, Aanand said, “My team and I practice one thing… jab bhi mushkil kahani hai, or every time we have a twisted tale we reach out to Ayushmann. Shubh Mangal… se start kiya aur ab yaha tak pahuche. This film is an action (genre) film with a twist, and it is because of this twist that we have Ayushmann in the movie.”

The film also stars Jaideep Ahlawat whose character is pitted against Ayushmann’s. Talking about sharing screen space with the actor, Ayushmann said, “Yeh toh mere first film se hota aaya hai, the cast has to be good. Afterall, Batman ke saath Joker zaroori hai. Hero ke saath villain zaroori hai. I am a huge fan of Jaideep Ahlawat. Ever since I watched his Paatal Lok I wanted to work with him.”

The actor is excited that the film, which is directed by Anirudh Iyer is his first action film. He says, “I am making a debut (in this genre). It is very topical and a relatable story. How everybody goes against this actor (played by Ayushmann).”

“I would say it is more than an action film. It is situation driven. It is in a very dark space. Filmon mein ladh ladh ke, he (Ayushmann’s character) has learnt to fight (in the character’s real life too),” said Iyer, who also shot a special number with Malaika Arora for this film.
