Wild’s Kaprizov fined $5K for roughing after cross-checking Kings’ Doughty
Minnesota Wild star Kirill Kaprizov was fined $5,000 on Wednesday by the NHL’s department of player safety for roughing Los Angeles Kings defenceman Drew Doughty.
Kaprizov was handed a match penalty and ejected during the second period after cross-checking Doughty in the chin and upper body. The play was ruled as intent to injure a player, which led to the ejection and a review with the department of player safety.
Doughty waved goodbye to Kaprizov after the penalty was called.
Doughty had hit Kaprizov several times in the leadup to the play, which resulted in the ejection.
The Kings ended up winning 1-0, with Los Angeles getting four power plays to Minnesota’s one.
The officiating didn’t please Wild coach Dean Evason, per The Athletic‘s Joe Smith, who said that defenders are getting away with things against Kaprizov.
Kaprizov has eight goals and five assists in 11 games this season.
