Pitbull, rottweiler banned: See Ghaziabad’s new rules for pet owners

Authorities in Ghaziabad have banned residents from keeping the ferocious Pitbull, Rottweiler and Dogo Argentino breeds as pets.

The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has also issued a host of other guidelines for pet-owners in the city amid a series of pet dog attacks.

These, in brief, are the new rules to be followed by pet-owners in Ghaziabad

  • Pet-owners will have to get a licence for their dogs, which will be issued from November 1
  • The registration should be obtained within two months.
  • No keeping ferocious breeds like Pitbull, Rottweiler and Dogo Argentino as pets. No licence will be issued for these breeds.
  • If any resident buys any of these breeds, they will be held responsible.
  • People who already have these breeds of dogs will have to get them sterilized within two months.
  • If the dog is younger than six months, the owner will have to submit an affidavit with an assurance that they will get the pet sterilised when it reaches that age
  • No family can keep more than one pet dog.
  • Pet-owners living in high rise complexes will have to use service lifts for taking their dogs out.
  • Owners have to make sure the dogs wear a muzzle while in the public.

The decision comes amidst several dog bite incidents reported from various localities of the city in the recent months. More than 10 children suffered dog bites in recent weeks, of which a boy needed 150 stitches after being attacked by a pitbull.
