Hamish Bowles Appointed the New Editor in Chief of World of Interiors

Vogue‘s International Editor at Large Hamish Bowles has been named the new editor of World of Interiors. “It is with tremendous excitement that I announce a new chapter in my thirty year career at Condé Nast as I prepare to helm this exquisite title, created by the brilliant and formidable Min Hogg in 1981 and subsequently nurtured with tremendous sensitivity and elegance by Rupert Thomas for 22 years,” Bowles announced on Instagram today. “I am so honored to be joining their illustrious company as I become only the third editor in the storied title’s 40 year history.”

Bowles studied fashion and journalism at Saint Martin’s School of Art and Design. He began his career at London’s Harpers & Queen magazine before joining American Vogue as Style Editor in 1992. Over the last three decades, Bowles has become one of the world’s most respected authorities in fashion and interior design.

Bowles plans to lead The World of Interiors’ editorial team into a new digital era while honoring the magazine’s timeless print heritage. The legendary editor will also continue his work at Vogue as the brand’s Global Editor at Large.

“I’m so thrilled by this new role for Hamish, who has an uncanny ability to pop up everywhere at once—and accomplish anything you ask of him along the way, with style, intelligence, and wit,” says Vogue Editor in Chief and Condé Nast Chief Content Officer Anna Wintour. “He is a brilliant writer, an expert editor, and a tireless globetrotter—I’ve long called him the original multitasker—who carries with him a wonderful mix of curiosity, erudition and enthusiasm. Hamish is also, of course, an expert design and fashion historian, and I can’t imagine a better person to take over The World of Interiors. I’m especially thrilled that he will stay on at Vogue’s Global Editor at Large as he moves into this next stage of his career.”
