Georgia narrowly avoids upset loss to Missouri, remains undefeated: Best tweets, memes

It sure did feel like the Georgia Bulldogs were going to suffer their first loss of the season, but they came back to earn a 26-22 win over the Missouri Tigers.

Well, that was a close one.

The Georgia Bulldogs have looked like the undisputed top team in college football in the first four weeks of the season. That was evident when they limited the Oregon Ducks to just three points in the season-opening game. They faced off against the Missouri Tigers, a team that let Bryan Harsin off the hook the week prior in their loss to Auburn.

It surely felt like the Bulldogs were heading for a loss, as they trailed 22-12 with a little over 14 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Yet, they were able to pick up the 26-22 victory after their final two offensive drives of the game resulted in one-yard touchdown runs by Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards.

Twitter reacts to Georgia avoiding upset against Missouri

Twitter users reacted to Georgia finding a way to come back and keep their undefeated season alive, even though it looked as though they were heading towards their first loss of the campaign.

The Tigers got off to a strong start, as they took an early 10-0 lead following a 10-yard touchdown pass from Brady Cook to Tyler Stephenson. At that point, Georgia’s first four drives ended in three punts and a fumble. Immediately following Missouri’s touchdown, they forced and recovered a fumble by Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett. Missouri capitalized with a 49-yard field goal by Harrison Mevis.

Georgia was able to score six points on their final two drives of the hat to enter halftime with a 16-6 deficit. That was the first time that the Bulldogs trailed an unranked opponent by double digits at halftime under head coach Kirby Smart since 2016 against, you guessed it, Missouri, per the CBS Sports tweet above.

Georgia looked bound for a loss after the score went up to 22-12 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but they were able to finally break out of their slump with touchdowns on their final two drives.

Sure, Georgia may have escaped with the victory, but they may tumble down the AP Top 25 rankings to be released on Sunday. They underperformed, while Alabama and Ohio State had convincing victories in Week 5.
