Earlier, on September 22, there was a massive avalanche in the catchment area of Chorabari Glacier at Kedarnath Dham.
Chorabari Glacier is situated at a distance of about 5 km behind the Kedarnath temple, between the Kedarnath summit to the north and the town of Kedarnath to the south, and covers an area of about 6 sq km. That avalanche had taken place after it rained heavily in the state for a few days.
