Jameis Winston returns to Saints practice after missing 12 days

After missing the past 12 days due to a foot injury, New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston was back at practice on Sunday and a participant in the team’s 7-on-7 drills, according to ESPN’s Katherine Terrell.

Winston has missed the Saints’ first two preseason games and it remains to be seen if he will play in their final game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday.

The injury in camp is a small setback for Winston as he works his way back from a torn ACL that cut his 2021 season short, limiting him to just seven games.

He played extremely well in those games, throwing 1,170 yards, 14 touchdowns, and only three interceptions in helping the Saints to a 5-2 record.

The Saints lost the next five games following his injury on their way to a 9-8 record that had them fall short of the NFC playoffs.

Winston is entering his third season with the Saints.

The Saints do have a little more depth behind Winston this season after acquiring veteran quarterback Andy Dalton during the offseason. Dalton and Ian Book have played all of the snaps at quarterback through the Saints’ first two preseason games, with the latter playing the entire game on Friday night in a 20-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
