Livid Collingwood star Taylor Adams brands Swans fans ‘GRUBS’ for booing his injured teammate ‘pantomime villain’ Jack Ginnivan
- Ginnivan was sidelined with injury for the Magpies loss to the Swans on Sunday
- Footage of him sitting on the bench was played on the big screen at the SCG
- Swans fans then proceeded to boo the Collingwood star as he sat and grinned
- Adams took objection to that and had a crack at Swans fans on social media
Taylor Adams has slammed Sydney Swans supporters for booing his injured Collingwood teammate Jack Ginnivan during the sides’ spiteful AFL clash on Sunday.
The Swans are now in the box seat for a top two finish after snapping the Magpies’ 11-game winning streak in their 11.11 (77) to 7.8 (50) victory at the SCG.
There was plenty of feeling in the match, which boiled over when Ginnivan was shown on the big screen, sitting on the bench injured.

Swans fans booed the polarising young star, which prompted Adams to clap back on Twitter.
‘Imagine booing an injured player. Grubs,’ he tweeted.
Fox Footy analyst Jon Ralph said footy fans should ‘have some respect’ for Ginnivan.
‘I just think we’ve got to have a bit of respect,’ he said.
‘We understand he’s become the pantomime villain of the AFL.’
Adams didn’t hold back at Sydney Swans supporters after they booed his teammate Ginnivan
Former NBL, Australian Boomers and Australian Opals coach Brendan Joyce backed Adams’ stance.
‘Totally agree mate. Those types of people usually have never been in an arena to experience the pressure of performance in any sport,’ he posted.
Many Swans supporters were quick to point out the hypocrisy of Adams’ tweet because Collingwood fans infamously and relentlessly booed former champion Adam Goodes until his premature retirement.
‘Mate it wasn’t so long ago that swathes of your club’s fans were booing a Swans player for reasons that have been well publicised. Yep, it’s not a good look – but something about people in glass houses?’ Jim B replied.
AFL commentator Dale Thomas agreed that Swans fans should know better.
‘Even without the Adam Goodes stuff, I think its absolutely disgraceful (the booing of Ginnivan),’ he said on 7’s Sunday Session.
‘He’s a young kid going about his business, he’s injured and they pan to him on the bench and the Swans fans boo.
‘I don’t think that’s the right thing.’

Others were quick to defend Ginnivan, saying the excuses of how he played the game did not give fans the right to boo him.
‘This is the same reason people gave for booing Adam Goodes. And that was wrong. Continually and relentlessly booing Ginnivan in the same way is wrong,’ Rachel Maclean tweeted.
Some just wanted to have a crack at Sydney supporters.
To be fair, they are Sydney supporters. They struggle to pay attention or understand the game. There’s every chance they didn’t know he was injured and are just taking cues from other teams supporters about how to act around him,’ Blair Jensen tweeted.
Other fans pointed out that Ginnivan seemed to revel in the booing, rather than be hurt by it.
Ralph added that fans needed to respect that athletes are susceptible to mental health issues as well and should be treated with more respect.
‘He’s also said a couple of times now as recently as this week that he’s battled with the mental health issues. You can talk about whether the media has inflated some of that, but I think you need to have a little bit more respect for Ginnivan there, especially when he was injured,’ he said.
Fellow commentator Alister Nicholson agreed with Ralph.
‘I reckon Jack Ginnivan is extremely stiff and its got to be a bit unwarranted that you’re injured and still getting booed by the crowd,’ he said.
