Ram Gopal Varma on Ranveer Singh’s controversial photoshoot: If women can show off sexy bodies, why can’t men? – Exclusive – Times of India

Ranveer Singh has been praised and trolled in equal measure for his bare-it-all photoshoot by Paper Magazine. While most of his peers have supported the ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’ actor, Ranveer has the support of filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, too. The veteran filmmaker who recently released the very risque, martial arts movie ‘Ladki’ feels Ranveer’s nude photos are a great example of gender equality.

Speaking exclusively to ETimes, RGV said, “Think it’s his way of demanding justice for gender equality. If women can show off their sexy bodies why can’t men? It’s hypocritical that men are judged by a different standard. Men should have as many equal rights as women.”

RGV, who has recently dared to make a spate of adult films like Climax and Naked, further added, “I think India is finally coming of age and I think this is Ranveer’s statement on gender equality.”

Yesterday, Ranveer’s co-star Alia Bhatt too had supported his choices and devil-may-care disposition adding, “I don’t like anything negative said about my favourite Ranveer Singh. I cannot even tolerate this question. I love him. He will be eternally favourite to everyone of us actually and he has given us so much at the movies, so we should only give him love.” Ranveer’s good friend Arjun Kapoor, too had supported his decision and said he’s doing what makes him happy and people should be able to respect that.

While RGV’s quirky support for Ranveer is unconventional, it is just as out of the box and unique as the superstar’s personality and choices.
