Jagdeep Dhankhar’s nomination as Vice-President: A major relief to ruling TMC

Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar’s nomination as BJP’s Vice-President has come as a major relief to the ruling Trinamool Congress in Bengal.

“Jagdeep Dhakhar was a constant trouble and pain to the West Bengal government. Dhankhar’s nomination as Vice-President is a reward for making the Bengal government’s life miserable. We are relieved that he has been nominated as the Vice-President,” Saugata Ray said.

“Dhankhar’s nomination by BJP is a well calculated move. It is also a convenient arrangement between Trinamool Congress and BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election and it has been done in a crafty way,” Legal expert and senior Advocate of Calcutta High Court Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya said.

Bhattacharya said that Dhankhar has a thorough legal knowledge and as Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu does not has any such background, Dhanhar will do the needful as he knows the Constitution.”

The West Bengal government and BJP were at loggerheads for the last three years and was in constant tussle with the state government. It can be noted even Trinamool Lok Sabha MP Sudip Bandopadhyay and Saugata Ray had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi about removal of Dhankhar.

“Jagdeep Dhankhar is an educated person with a legal background . He belongs to the close circle of BJP and thus he has been nominated for the post,” West Bengal Pradesh Congress President & Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said.

However, BJP National Vice-President Dilip Ghosh said, “It is a master stroke by Modiji. There were several names in Bengal but his name was not in the list. It is very nice to have the Bengal Governor as the candidate for Vice-President post.”
