Ayan Mukerji: The second and third installment of the Brahmastra trilogy will be planned after the release of the first film – Times of India

The Brahmastra trailer featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna has taken the movie world by storm. The trailer has been appreciated for its visuals and the concept which looks totally out of this world. While the trailer and the various opinions around it have been trending on social media, the fans have already started speculating about the next installments in the trilogy.

Speaking about the prospects of the second and third part of this franchise, director Ayan Mukherji said, “We will plan the shooting of the second and third part after the release of the first film.” Revealing some idea about the future films, he said, “The entire trilogy will tell the same story but the next movies will introduce new characters and bring new perspectives to the Brahmastra story.”

Ayan began work on Brahmastra about nine years ago, after he had finished Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and taken a soul-stirring trip to the mountains. Despite kick-starting pre-production in 2014, it was only in 2017 that he began shooting for the film. Revealing about the long process and how Ranbir Kapoor was involved, Ayan said, “When I started the prep for Brahmastra, Ranbir was offered Sanju. He was supposed to start prep with me, but he chose to start Sanju first. I was so angry. I was happy that he was working with Raju Hirani but what about my project? But in hindsight, I’m glad Ranbir chose to work on Sanju because, a few years later, Sanju was shot, edited and ready for release and my pre-production hadn’t even completed. Had Ranbir waited for me, it would’ve been too long a wait.”

‘Brahmastra’ is slated to release in September, so fans and movie buffs will have to wait and watch for the trilogy’s next offerings to kick start.
