The resurgence of 2000s’ thong cut-out jeans and how you can style it – Times of India
While people used to wear real thongs underneath a pair of low-rise jeans during the 00s, the trend of today has gone a bit modern and practical by incorporating waist cut-outs at the waistband area of jeans, thus giving it a visible thong look, but not in actuality.
From Kendall Jenner to Bella Hadid, fashionable ‘IT’ girls have already given a nod to the trend by being spotted in the thong cut-out jeans, thus making us excited about it’s resurgence.
The trend had started popping-up in fashion circles when luxury brand Versace made supermodel Bella Hadid walk for it’s Spring 2020 Men’s Show, in 2019. Hadid wore shimmery trousers, which also featured matching black thongs. The thong also featured the Versace’s signature ‘La Medusa’ gold hardware on it.
In 2020, Hadid’s best friend, supermodel Kendall Jenner was spotted wearing a head-to toe pink I.M.GIA outfit, that was designed as if the trousers showed a visible thong. Jenner’s outfit was filled with details, like the top’s plunging neckline and strappy wrap were designed to match the thong-like waist straps on the slim-fit trousers.
How can you style it?
1.
Keep it basic: Since these trousers themselves are quite a statement, keep the rest of your outfit simple, by sticking to simple tops.
2. Pair with a structured top: While crop tops can be a casual option, you can also opt to wear button-down shirts, or a matching co-ord upper set, which will lend the trousers a much-elevated look.
3.
Avoid wearing belts with such pants, so that the look of the trouser stays intact.
4. Add a pop of colour: If the colour of your pants are neutral themed, for instance black or the classic dark blue, opt for a pop of colour on the upper side, by pairing off the pants with a bright colour (we recommend this season’s hottest colour- hot pink).
