South African pacer Dale Steyn has announced his retirement from cricket. The pacer who played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) took to social media to share the news.
Sharing pictures of his cricketing journey, the bowler said it has been a long 20 years journey, “And it’s been a long December and there’s reason to believe…Maybe this year will be better than the last…I can’t remember all the times I tried to tell my myself…To hold on to these moments as they pass.”
He added, “It’s been 20 years of training, matches, travel, people, wins, losses, strapped feet, jet lag, joy, and brotherhood. There are too many memories to tell. Too many faces to thank. So I left it to the experts to sum up, my favorite band, the Counting Crows.
“Today I officially retire from the game I love the most. Bittersweet but grateful. Thank you to everyone, from family to teammates, journalists to fans, it’s been an incredible journey together”.

The 38-year-old was one of the best fast bowlers to play the game. He had 439 wickets from 93 Tests at an average of 22.95 and strike rate of 42.3.
Steyn played his last Test in February 2019 after which he had announced retirement from the longest format of the game in August that year. His last ODI was in March 2019 while his last ODI was in February last year.
